Percentage of household budget for necessities in China

 

The chart below gives information about the household percentage of spending on essential goods in China for the years 1995 and 2011.

Summarise the information by selecting and reporting the main features and make comparisons where relevant.

The two pie charts illustrate the amount of money that people spent on four different types of important categories in China between 1995 and 2011.


The category of food accounted for 68 per cent of the household budget in 1995 and decreased by 9 per cent in 2011, to 59%. Meanwhile, at the beginning of the period, clothing made up 19%, and this figure had changed marginally to 18% in 2011.


However, in terms of increasing the budget figures during the given time. Household goods comprised 9% of their expenditure in 1995, and this figure rose to 12% in 2011. Simultaneously, Chinese citizens have invested the lowest portion of their budget on medicine in both years, at 4% in 1995, and it almost tripled to 11% in 2011.


Overall, the graph shows that Chinese people spent the largest amount of their income on food items in both years. Whereas the least is on medical expenses.
